Apple Journal app on Android, Windows or the web: the alternatives
Apple's Journal app only runs on Apple devices. If you use an Android phone or a Windows PC, or want to write in a browser, these are the journals that do, and what each one is good for.

Apple Journal is free and made by Apple. The App Store lists it for iPhone and iPad on iOS and iPadOS 17.2 or later, and Apple's own user guide covers a Mac version on macOS Tahoe. Apple does not publish a version for Android, Windows or the web.
So the useful question is which part of Apple Journal you want to keep: private writing, suggestions drawn from your day, or something that answers what you wrote.
On an Android phone
Google makes its own Journal app for Pixel phones. On a Pixel 8 or later it is the closest match to Apple Journal: made by the phone's maker and built around your day. Google does not offer it for other Android phones.
On any other Android phone, a cross-platform journal is the practical answer. Day One has a native Android app. Dayora runs in the phone's browser and can be added to the home screen so it opens like an app. There is no Dayora app on Google Play.

On Windows or in a browser
Apple Journal has no Windows or web version, so a journal you reach through a browser is how to write from a PC. Day One offers web access on every plan, including its free Basic plan. Dayora works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on a computer or a phone, and it is the same journal on each.
Writing in a browser also means your journal is not tied to one phone. If you move from iPhone to Android later, nothing has to move with you.
If you want a journal that writes back
Apple Journal suggests what to write about. Dayora answers what you wrote. Write or speak an entry and a reply arrives that fits it, with a question when one would help you go further. That reply, voice entries, mood tracking and Reflect chat are all in the free core.
Know the trade-off before you start. Apple Journal is part of Apple's own software. Dayora sends entries to OpenAI to write each reply, and under Dayora's agreement OpenAI may use that content to train its models. Read the privacy policy before you decide.
