How to export your Rosebud journal and read the Markdown files
Keep a copy of your Rosebud journal. Follow the export steps, open your Markdown files in the free local reader, and check your backup.

The reader does not upload files, call an AI model or import entries into Dayora. Keep your original export as your backup.
This guide concerns the Rosebud journaling app at rosebud.app. Dayora publishes it independently and is not affiliated with Rosebud.
Download your entries from Rosebud
On the web, Rosebud documents an Export button in Settings under Export to Markdown. For a single entry, its help page points to the three-dot menu and Export. On mobile, look for Export in Settings. Use the official instructions below if the current screen differs.
Save the downloaded files somewhere you can find again. If your download is a ZIP, extract it first and keep the original ZIP too. The reader below accepts individual Markdown or text files; it does not unpack ZIP files.
Free Rosebud Markdown export reader
Choose up to 20 .md, .markdown or .txt files, with a maximum of 2 MB per file and 8 MB altogether. You can read each file and save a combined text copy. Formatting markers remain visible so the reader does not rewrite your words or mistake an AI reply for your own entry.
Files stay in the reader in this tab. They are not sent to Dayora or saved in browser storage. Clearing the reader or closing the page removes its working copy; your original files remain on your device.
The downloaded HTML reader can be opened in a browser without an internet connection. It contains no journal files.
Check the backup before deleting anything
Open a recent entry, an older entry and one with details you care about. Check that the writing is present and readable. A successful download by itself does not prove that everything you expected is in it.
This reader displays text. It does not retrieve linked images or attachments, interpret Rosebud's metadata, or reconstruct a journal timeline. If attachments matter to you, inspect the original export and check Rosebud's current documentation separately.
- Keep an unchanged original and a second copy in a location you control.
- Check dates and unusual characters, including writing in other languages.
- Keep your own messages distinct from any AI commentary included in a file.
- Treat account deletion separately from exporting or cancelling a subscription.

Use the archive while you try another journal
Markdown is readable text with formatting markers. You can keep the files in a folder and use a text editor to open them. The combined download from this reader is a convenience copy, not a replacement for your originals.
Dayora currently imports ChatGPT exports only. A Rosebud file opened here is not added to a Dayora account. If you choose to start fresh in Dayora, write a new entry with the context you want to carry forward, and keep the Rosebud history separately.
If preserving original dates inside a new journal is essential, choose a product with verified support for your export format. Pasting an old entry into Dayora saves it as new writing at the time you save it; it is not a dated migration.
What the free-plan change means for your archive
Rosebud's notice gives 30 September 2026 as the free-plan retirement date and says existing writing remains available to export. It does not say that journals will be erased on that date. Keep a backup because it is useful, without treating the announcement as a deletion deadline.
Questions and answers
How do I download all my Rosebud entries?
Rosebud's web instructions point to Settings, then Export under Export to Markdown. Its mobile instructions point to Export in Settings. Follow the linked official guide for current screens.
Can I open a Rosebud export without paying for another app?
You can read Markdown files in a text editor. This page also provides a free local reader for individual Markdown or text files, without an account. Extract ZIP downloads before selecting the files.
Does this reader upload my journal?
No. Files are read inside the reader on your device. It does not send file contents to Dayora, an analytics service or an AI model, and it does not save them in browser storage.
Can I import a Rosebud export into Dayora?
Not currently. This is a reader, not an importer. Dayora's supported import is for ChatGPT exports. You can keep your Rosebud archive separately and start new writing in Dayora.
Does the reader preserve photos and original entry dates?
It preserves the selected files' text in the combined text download, including dates written in that text. It does not load attachments, validate date metadata or create dated entries in another app.
